Michelle Olson
As part of VIDF’s new vision, we are committed to creating a more open, inclusive and democratic selection process. This year, we are putting out an Open Call to Artists. Joining us on the selection committee is Guest Artist, Michelle Olson, ensuring diverse voices shape VIDF’s programming.
Michelle is a member of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation and co-Artistic Director of Raven Spirit Dance. She studied dance and performance at the University of New Mexico, the Aboriginal Arts Program at the Banff Centre and was an Ensemble Member of Full Circle First Nations Performance. She works in areas of dance, theatre and opera as a choreographer, performer and movement coach and her work has been seen on stages across Canada. She recently received her MFA in Directing from the University of British Columbia and is currently teaching at Langara University’s Studio 58.
In 2013, Michelle was the recipient of the inaugural VIDF Choreographic Award.
Our shared programming goals are to honour established artists while creating space for fresh voices; to feature work that transforms people; and to present a festival that’s a celebration of dance, dance artists, and all their magic.
