A continuous encounter with knowledge and experiential learning, Ko Te Ākau is a visual arts installation and durational performance program exploring traditional learning institutions, knowledge progression and making sense of the worlds, temporal and spiritual.
The acaquisition of knowledge was at the centre of traditional Māori society. The Māori language actively engaged with figurative, metaphoric and poetic imagery to explore the power of abstract thought and it was these methods that built the foundation of an understanding of Indigenous philosophy.
Ko Te Ākau is an acknowledgement of the potential to remember, create, share, risk and embrace.
