History

1998 — The 1998 Vancouver Butoh Festival took place in August and November, 1998 and featured performances and workshops by Gustavo Collini-Sartor from Argentina, Masahide Ohmori from Japan, and Yumiko Yoshioka from Japan/Germany.

2000 — The 2000 Vancouver International Dance Festival presented workshops and performances by Fujiwara Dance Inventions (Ontario), Kozensha Butoh Company (Japan), GooSayTen (Japan), Jocelyne Montpetit Danse (Quebec), Tangentz Performance Group (USA), Ziyian Kwan (BC), Kokoro Dance (BC), and SU-EN (Sweden).

2001 — The 2001 Vancouver International Dance Festival presented workshops and performances by par b.l.eux (Benoît Lachambre - Quebec), Diego Piñón (Mexico), Shirka Urechko (Manitoba), Shinichi Momo Koga (USA), Mascall Dance (BC), battery opera (BC), Co. ERASGA (BC), Kinesis Dance (BC), Plan B Dance Productions (BC), and Kokoro Dance (BC).

2003 — The 2003 Vancouver International Dance Festival presented workshops and performances by Germany's Ten Pen Chii Art Labor, Ontario's classical Indian dance company Chitralekha Odissi Dance Creations, New York based Japanese duo Eiko and Koma, Vancouver companies Kokoro Dance and Co. Erasga, Montréal's Danse Carpe Diem and the American modern dance trio Paradigm, with legendary peformers Gus Solomons Jr., Dudley Williams and Carmen De Lavallade. A series of free public performances by Vancouver dancers and dance companies include Karen Jamieson Dance Company, Kokoro Dance's Barbara Bourget, Jheric Hizon, Daelik, and Ziyian Kwan.

2004 —The 2004 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place March 09 - March 27 at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Vancouver, BC and featured mainstage performances by EDAM Dance, Kokoro Dance, the Hard Rubber Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, David Pressault Danse, Erwin Vann, Silesian Dance Theatre, Rubberbandance Group, Kate Alton, Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg, Tadashi Endo, and Thomas Lehmen. Free performances by Firefly Performance Society, Hizon’s b-boys/b-girls, Helen Walkley, Dancers Dancing, Brock Jellison, and Flamenco Rosario.

2005 —The 2005 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place between March 8 and March 26, 2005, at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Vancouver, BC and featured mainstage performances by EDAM Dance, Kokoro Dance, Silesian Dance Theatre, Wen Wei Dance, Lucie Grégoire Danse, LINK Dance, Maureen Fleming, Skin/A Fleur De Peau, and Quorum. Free performances by Venus Bellydancers, Jennifer Clarke & Anne Cooper, Mozaico Flamenco, Science Friction, Dancers Dancing, Amber Funk, Ballet BC Mentors, MainDance, Freeform Tribe, and Urban Tap Squad.

2006 —The 2006 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place between March 4 and April 1, 2006, at locations around Vancouver, BC including the Roundhouse Community Centre, Harbour Dance, the Dance Centre, Centennial Theatre and the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. Mainstage performances by Harupin-ha Butoh Dance Theatre, Compagnie Aurélia—Rita Cioffi, Go-On Productions, Fujiwara Dance Inventions, EDAM Dance, battery opera, Ruckus Dance, Kokoro Dance, and Kidd Pivot. Free performances by Dead Reckoning, Dancers Dancing, Ballet BC Mentors, MOVE: the company, Flamenco Rosario, Kathryn Ricketts, Tanya Marquardt, and FootEdge Dance Company.

2007 — The 2007 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place February 21 to April 1, 2007, at locations around Vancouver, BC including the Roundhouse Community Centre, Harbour Dance, the Dance Centre, Centennial Theatre, EDAM Studio Theatre, the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Waterfront Theatre, and the Norman Rothstein Theatre. Mainstage performances by EDAM, Serge Bennathan, Ailey II, Tedd Robinson, Deborah Hay Dance Company, Mari Osanai and Hiromoto Ida, Kokoro Dance and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Compagnie Danse Nyata Nyata, battery opera, Flamenco Rosario, AURA Dance Theatre, MOVE: the company, Ruckus Dance Company, and YAYOI Theatre Movement. Free performances by Mozaico Flamenco Dance Theatre, Scheherazaad Cooper, the Tomorrow Collective, James Gnam, Holly Bright, Lisa Hostman, Darcy McMurray, FootEdge Dance Company, MainDance Bridging Program, Firebelly Performance Society, Raven Spirit Dance, CirKids, and the SFU Dance Grads.

Mainstage performances by Ana Arroyo, Toronto Dance Theatre, Sarah Williams, Kaha:wi Dance Theatre, Raven Spirit Dance, Gaetan Gingras, Compagnie Aurelia—Rita Cioffi, Fabrice Ramalingom, Margie Gillis, Taketeru Kudo, Martin Belanger, Joe Ink, EDAM, Kaeja d’Dance, Co. ERASGA, Kokoro Dance, and BUTOH-a-GO-GO. 2009 - The 2009 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place March 4-April 4, 2009, at locations around Vancouver, BC including the Roundhouse Community Centre, Harbour Dance, the Scotiabank Dance Centre, and Centennial Theatre. Mainstage performances by Two Night Stand (Barbara Bourget, Jay HIrabayashi, Tanya Tagaq, Cris Derksen, Lee Pui Ming, Tony Wilson, Dylan van der Schyff), Jérôme Bel & Pichet Klunchun, Ipsita Nova Dance Projects, Lucie Grégoire & Yoshito Ohno, Louise Bédard Danse, Mascall Dance/Ron Stewart, Natsu Nakajima, Dancers Dancing & the Vancouver Cantata Singers, Maria Juncal, Kokoro Dance & the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Kokoro Dance, MOVE: the company, and Martha Carter-mmHoP.
