Mascall Dance (BC)

White Spider

March 12 – 13, 2010 @ 8pm - Roundhouse -- These performance are sold-out

A world premiere at the 2010 VIDF, Mascall Dance’s White Spider draws inspiration from Heinrich Harrer’s book chronicling the history of attempts to ascend the "Eiger Nordwand" (Eiger North Face), a notoriously difficult and dangerous mountain in Switzerland. Choreographer Jennifer Mascall has created a compelling exploration of the shear wall that separates life and death by combining contemporary dance with mountain acrobatics on a set designed and constructed by sculptural artist Alan Storey. A dynamic, highly physical, but also thoughtful and poignant production with five performers climbing and rappelling in dance across the shifting walls of an abstract mountain set, White Spider uses mountaineering equipment to enable its dancers to move without restrictions as they create a delicate web of movements defying the laws of gravity.
