1998 — The 1998 Vancouver Butoh Festival took place in August and November, 1998 and featured performances and workshops by Gustavo Collini-Sartor from Argentina, Masahide Ohmori from Japan, and Yumiko Yoshioka from Japan/Germany.
2000 — The 2000 Vancouver International Dance Festival presented workshops and performances by Fujiwara Dance Inventions (Ontario), Kozensha Butoh Company (Japan), GooSayTen (Japan), Jocelyne Montpetit Danse (Quebec), Tangentz Performance Group (USA), Ziyian Kwan (BC), Kokoro Dance (BC), and SU-EN (Sweden).
2001 — The 2001 Vancouver International Dance Festival presented workshops and performances by par b.l.eux (Benoît Lachambre – Quebec), Diego Piñón (Mexico), Shirka Urechko (Manitoba), Shinichi Momo Koga (USA), Mascall Dance (BC), battery opera (BC), Co. ERASGA (BC), Kinesis Dance (BC), Plan B Dance Productions (BC), and Kokoro Dance (BC).
2003 — The 2003 Vancouver International Dance Festival presented workshops and performances by Germany’s Ten Pen Chii Art Labor, Ontario’s classical Indian dance company Chitralekha Odissi Dance Creations, New York based Japanese duo Eiko and Koma, Vancouver companies Kokoro Dance and Co. Erasga, Montréal’s Danse Carpe Diem and the American modern dance trio Paradigm, with legendary performers Gus Solomons Jr., Dudley Williams and Carmen De Lavallade. A series of free public performances by Vancouver dancers and dance companies include Karen Jamieson Dance Company, Kokoro Dance’s Barbara Bourget, Jheric Hizon, Daelik, and Ziyian Kwan.
2004 —The 2004 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place March 09 – March 27 at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Vancouver, BC and featured mainstage performances by EDAM Dance, Kokoro Dance, the Hard Rubber Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, David Pressault Danse, Erwin Vann, Silesian Dance Theatre, Rubberbandance Group, Kate Alton, Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg, Tadashi Endo, and Thomas Lehmen. Free performances by Firefly Performance Society, Hizon’s b-boys/b-girls, Helen Walkley, Dancers Dancing, Brock Jellison, and Flamenco Rosario.
2005 —The 2005 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place between March 8 and March 26, 2005, at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Vancouver, BC and featured mainstage performances by EDAM Dance, Kokoro Dance, Silesian Dance Theatre, Wen Wei Dance, Lucie Grégoire Danse, LINK Dance, Maureen Fleming, Skin/A Fleur De Peau, and Quorum. Free performances by Venus Bellydancers, Jennifer Clarke & Anne Cooper, Mozaico Flamenco, Science Friction, Dancers Dancing, Amber Funk, Ballet BC Mentors, MainDance, Freeform Tribe, and Urban Tap Squad.

Mainstage performances by Two Night Stand (Barbara Bourget, Jay HIrabayashi, Tanya Tagaq, Cris Derksen, Lee Pui Ming, Tony Wilson, Dylan van der Schyff), Jérôme Bel & Pichet Klunchun, Ipsita Nova Dance Projects, Lucie Grégoire & Yoshito Ohno, Louise Bédard Danse, Mascall Dance/Ron Stewart, Natsu Nakajima, Dancers Dancing & the Vancouver Cantata Singers, Maria Juncal, Kokoro Dance & the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Kokoro Dance, MOVE: the company, and Martha Carter-mmHoP. Free performances by Out Innerspace, Rob Kitsos & Dancers, Karen Rose, casebolt & smith, The Source Dance Co./Harbour Dance Centre’s ITP, Floating Seed, The Story of Force & Motion, and Mozaico Flamenco.
2010 – The 2010 Vancouver International Dance Festival presented by the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad took place March 12-21, at the Roundhouse Community Centre, Vancouver Playhouse, Harbour Dance Centre, EDAM Dance Studio and the Scotiabank Dance Centre. The festival featured mainstage performances by Mascall Dance, Kitt Johnson, LAFA & Artists, Bill Shannon, Peggy Baker, Toronto Dance Theatre, Black Grace, and Ronald K. Brown’s Evidence Dance Company. On the Exhibition Hall free stage, we presented Kokoro Dance, Flamenco Rosario, Out Innerspace, and Michael Sakamoto. In the Exhibition Hall, we also featured the art of Jim Cummins (aka I, Braineater) and Bernadine Fox. Other outreach activities included master classes and workshops by Kitt Johnson, Christopher House, Artistic Director of Toronto Dance Theatre, and Ronald K. Brown, Artistic Director of Evidence Dance Company.
2011 – The 2011 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place March 1 – 19, 2011 at the Roundhouse, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, and Vancouver Art Gallery-Offsite. Kokoro Dance gave free performances at the VAG-Offsite. Free performance were also performed on the Exhibition Hall stage by battery opera, The Source, Arts Umbrella Dance Company, Khambatta Dance Company (Seattle), T42 (Switzerland/Japan), and Now or Never. On the Roundhouse Performance Centre main stage were performances by EDAM, Yvonne Pouget (Germany), Deborah Dunn (Montreal), Cruceta Flamenco (Spain), Marc Boivin (Montreal) & Ichigo-Ichieh (Nelson), and Kokoro Dance with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. SiNS Dance Company self-presented under the marketing banner of the VIDF at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. In the Exhibition Hall, we also featured a retrospective photo exhibition of the photography of Chris Randle covering over thirty years of Vancouver dance photography. Master classes were taught by Mariano Cruceta, Cyrus Khambatta, and Marc Boivin.
2012 – The 2012 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place March 2 – 11, 2012 at the Roundhouse, and The Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts. Alonzo King Lines Ballet (San Fransisco) were featured at The Centre, while the Roundhouse Performance Centre stage hosted performances by inkBoat (San Francisco), Taketeru Kudo (Japan), and Lucie Grégoire(Montreal) with Yoshito Ohno (Japan). Free performances were featured on the Roundhouse Exhibition Hall stage by Kokoro Dance, and Natsu Nakajima (Japan). In the Exhibition Hall, we also featured exhibitions by artist Alix Hirabayashi, and photographer Chris Randle. Workshops and master classes were given by Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Kokoro Dance, Shinichi Iova-Koga, and Yoshito Ohno
2013 – The 2013 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place March 2 – 23, 2013 at the Roundhouse, Scotiabank Dance Centre, Vancouver Playhouse and community locations including the Vancouver Art Gallery – Offsite, Woodward’s atrium, Roundhouse turntable plaza, and Lonsdale Quay Market. Black Grace (New Zealand), and Margie Gillis (Montreal), were featured at the Vancouver Playhouse, Joe Ink (Vancouver) at Scotiabank Dance Centre, and Co.ERASGA (Vancouver), Kitt Johnson X-act (Denmark), battery opera (Vancouver), EDAM (Vancouver), Jocelyne Montpetit Danse (Montreal), and Kokoro Dance all appeared on the Roundhouse Performance Centre Stage. Free performances were featured in the Roundhouse Exhibition Hall by Salomé Diaz (Vancouver), Jennifer McKinley (Vancouver), Gibson Muriva (Montreal), Anusha Fernando (Vancouver), Dancers of Damelahamid (Vancouver), T42 (Switzerland), and Raven Spirit Dance (Vancouver). Free site specific performances were given by Kokoro Dance, and Compaigni V’ni Dansi at various locations throughout Vancouver. In the exhibition hall, we also featured exhibitions by photographer Chris Randle, and sculptor Ken Clarke. Workshops and master classes were given by Black Grace, Gibson Muriva, and Jocelyne Montpetit. The VIDF hosted The Gathering, a symposium of culturally diverse and Aboriginal dance artists at Scotiabank Dance Centre with discussions on performances by Kitt Johnson, Gibson Muriva, Byron Chief-Moon, Kokoro Dance, Dancers of Damelahamid, and Anusha Fernando.
2014 – The 2014 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place March 7-29, 2014 at the Roundhouse, Vancouver Playhouse, and community sites including the Woodward’s atrium, Roundhouse Turntable Plaza, and Lonsdale Quay Market in North Vancouver. At the Vancouver Playhouse, we presented the Guangdong Modern Dance Company (China), with the Goh Ballet (Vancouver) in a shared evening of program, and Israel Galván (Spain). At the Roundhouse, we presented Kokoro Dance (Vancouver), Dancers Dancing (Vancouver), Yui Kawaguchi & Aki Takase (Germany), and Créations Estelle Clareton & Montréal Danse (Montreal). On the Roundhouse Community stage in the Exhibition Hall we presented Modus Operandi (Vancouver), 605 Collective (Vancouver), Michael Sakamoto & Rennie Harris (USA), and 10 Gates Dancing with Public Recordings (Ottawa). Site-specific performances by Kokoro Dance (Vancouver) took place at the Woodwards Atrium, Roundhouse Turntable Plaza, and Lonsdale Quay Market. In the Exhibition Hall was an art and photography exhibition featuring works by Richard Tetrault, Tsuneko Kokubo, and Chris Randle.
2015 – Featuring artists from Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, Hungary, and Japan, the 2015 Vancouver International Dance Festival took place March 8 – 28, 2015 with performances at the Roundhouse, Vancouver Playhouse, and Woodward’s Atrium. At the Vancouver Playhouse March 20-21, 8:00pm, the VIDF presented Dairakudakan, Japan’s legendary butoh company performing the Canadian premiere of Mushi no Hoshi – Space Insect. At the Roundhouse March 12 – 14, 8:00pm, the VIDF presented Benoît Lachambre’s mesmerizing Snakeskins with his company, Par B.L.eux (Montreal). On March 19 – 21, 8:00pm, Out Innerspace and the 605 Collective, two of Vancouver’s hottest dance companies, shared an evening program giving an initial look at new works that will receive their full premieres in 2016. On March 26 – 28, 8:00pm Montreal’s Manuel Roque performed his exhilarating Ne meurs pas tout de suite, On nous regarde, a raucous duet between two manic dancers. On March 12 – 14, Toronto’s Benjamin Kamino performed Nudity. Desire, a work, as the title suggests where Kamino uses his nude body to examine nudity, vanity, and desire. On March 19 – 21, Ferenc Fehér (Hungary) performed his duet Tao Te, a physical struggle between two men seeking spiritual balance. On March 26 – 28, Amber Funk Barton’s The Response, another hot Vancouver company, delivered Orbits, a duet where two atomic beings move in relentless unison interrupted by irregularity and reaction. The VIDF also presented 2:00pm and 4:00pm free shows by Kokoro Dance on March 8th and 15th at the Woodward’s Atrium and March 22nd at the Roundhouse.
2016 – The 2016 VIDF took place February 28 – March 19, 2016 featuring Cie Virginie Brunelle (QC), EDAM (BC), and Company 605 (BC) at the Roundhouse; Kokoro Dance (BC) and Memory Wax/Danza Teatro Retazos (Sweden/Cuba) at the Vancouver Playhouse; and free performances including Mascall Dance (BC) and Raven Spirit Dance (BC) in the Woodward’s Atrium, and Circadia Indigena (ON/BC), Sujit Vaidya (BC), Project Soul (BC). and Dumb Instrument Dance (BC) at the Roundhouse Exhibition Hall. In the Exhibition Hall was an art and photography exhibition where drawings by Val Nelson, photography by Chris Randle, and sculpture by Ken Clarke were on display.
2017 – The 2017 VIDF took place March 1 – 25, 2017 featuring Yayoi Theatre Movement (BC) at Studio 1398, Kinesis Dance (BC) at the Scotiabank Dance Centre; Kaeja d’Dance (ON), Cie Virginie Brunelle (QC), and Kitt Johnson (Denmark) at the Roundhouse; Dairakudakan (Japan) and Alonzo King LINES Ballet (USA) at the Vancouver Playhouse; and Matthew Romantini (ON) and Karen Jamieson/Margaret Grenier (BC) at KW Production Studio. Free performances included Mutable Subject/Deanna Peters (BC) and KTL Dance Company (BC) at the Woodward’s Atrium; and Molly McDermott (BC), Rob Kitsos/Kim Stevenson/Jane Osborne (BC), and Ouro (BC) at the Roundhouse Exhibition Hall. In the Exhibition Hall, artists Corey Bulpitt, Haisla Collins, Kee Toy Joseph, Jeanette Lee, Sharifah Marsden, Gerald Pedros, Susan Point, Connie Sabo, Jerry Whitehead, Sylvia Wong and June Yun contributed to the Big Print Chinatown large wood-relief printmaking exhibition and sculptor Ken Clarke created two large woven willow and steel sculptures.
